ANERA and Qatar Red Crescent in Gaza Water Project Deal
Doha, August 02 (QNA) – Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the American Near East Refugee Aid (ANERA) to conduct a project to deliver drinking water to several districts of the Gaza city, thus alleviating the suffering of 120,000 people who have difficulty finding water in eastern Gaza.
The $561,000 (QR 2,042,540) project will start by the end of this month. QRC will dig a water well and establish a main water pipeline connecting to the beneficiary 2 km2 area.
ANERA will install the connections between the main pipeline and households over the project’s eight months.
QRC Secretary-General, Saleh bin Ali Al-Mohannadi, welcomed this new partnership with ANERA, which will lay the foundation for joint work in favor of the Palestinian people of Gaza, reflecting positively on their living standards.
“QRC has on top of its priorities the service of Gaza people, who live in severe humanitarian conditions. We try to fulfill their basic needs in health care, education, shelter, water, and sanitation. Since the war on Gaza last summer, we have funded and conducted several water and sanitation projects in favor of nearly 200,000 people of Gaza,” Al-Mohannadi added.
ANERA’s President and CEO William Corcoran, said “We are proud of this project, which is the first step in our work with QRC, to serve thousands of men, women, and children of Gaza, who deserve to receive clean drinking water in the face of everyday challenges suffered by Palestinians in Gaza.” Incorporated in 1968 to help ease the suffering of Palestinian refugees after the Arab-Israeli War of 1967, ANERA is non-political and non-religious and is one of the largest American non-profits working solely in the Middle East for 47 years. ANERA advances the well-being of people in the West Bank, Gaza, Lebanon, and Jordan.
Through partnerships and close consultation with local groups and communities, ANERA responds to economic, health, and educational needs with sustainable solutions and also delivers humanitarian aid during emergencies. (QNA)
