ACRL Urges Community to Contact Local Congressional Representative Regarding the Amer Bill
The Amer Bill presently making its way through Congress will allow children who are taken away by Child Protective Services the right to live with other family members instead of being exposed to different environments that could alter their upbringing. The Amer Bill stems from a 1985 incident when Ahmed ad Rehab Amer had their children taken away after the unfortunately and accidental death of their two year old son. The children placed in foster years were subjected to years of neglect with the foster parents and lost touch with their family, as well as their culture and religious background. This important bill will permit families to remain close and most importantly protect the best interests of the children who need to maintain stable upbringings.
