AANM Selected as National Performance Network/Visual Artists Network Partner
DEARBORN, Mich. – The Arab American National Museum (AANM) is proud to announce its recent selection as a partner of The National Performance Network, including the Visual Artists Network, (NPN/VAN) and will join NPN/VAN on July 1, 2016.
NPN/VAN is a relationship-based network of presenters and exhibitors that serve and connect diverse cultural organizations, artists and communities. Founded in 1985, NPN/VAN serves artists, arts organizers and a diverse range of audiences and communities across the country through activities such as artists’ commissions, residencies, community-engaged cultural projects and convenings.
As a partner, AANM joins a network dedicated and committed to facilitating collaborations that inspire artistic experimentation, honor cultural heritage and promote social change. Prided on creating meaningful partnerships and providing leadership, NPN/VAN dedicates more than $1.5 million annually in support to artists through its network and generates paid opportunities for artists to create, exhibit and tour work to diverse communities across the globe.
“The Arab American National Museum is honored to have been selected to join the National Performance Network,” says Devon Akmon, AANM director. “The vision and values of the NPN are very much aligned with our work toward building community through the arts. We look forward to forging new collaborations, presenting innovative and diverse programming, and exchanging ideas and knowledge in partnership with other members of the network.”
NPN Partners collaborate with a wide range of community agencies, including other arts organizations, churches, social service agencies and community development corporations, in order to reach new and under-served audiences.
The NPN/VAN Board of Directors and staff-led Partnership Committee use a detailed two-year application process to select nominated nonprofit organizations whose values and mission aligns with the NPN/VAN vision of supporting the arts. With this year’s addition of AANM and nine other organizations selected from 100 nominations, NPN/VAN has increased to 77 partners spanning across 47 cities in 31 different states.
NPN/VAN supports the creating and touring of contemporary performing and visual arts while addressing the issues of artistic isolation and the economic constraints of moving art around the country and the sharing of artistic and community voices.
The Arab American National Museum (AANM) documents, preserves and presents Arab American history, culture and contributions.
