A Sweet Delight: Tunisian Bambalouni Recipe

When visiting Tunisia, you should try the Bambalouni, you will find it everywhere but mostly near the sea. It is famous in Sidi Bou Said where you will find a queue outside a shop serving deep-fried desserts.
The sugar-dusted Tunisian donut is in a form of a ring that you will get hot and straight out of the frier. From the first bite, you will fall in love due to its rich taste. It will melt in your mouth and definitely make you want more.
But If you cannot visit Sidi Bou Said, do not worry, we will bring you Sidi Bou Said to your kitchen, where you have all the ingredients!
Here is what you need for the recipe:
Flour (250g)
Dried yeast (1tsp)
Warm water (150ml-1cup)
Salt (1tsp)
Sugar (to dip your bambalouni inside of it)
Oil (1L to deep fry with)
Let us start making Bambalounis with these easy and quick steps:
- Mix warm water with the yeast and let it rest for 10 minutes
- Add to flour and salt
- Keep mixing and kneading the dough until you get a smooth ball (add water if needed)
- Cover it and let it rest for 4 hours in a warm place
- Heat the oil, and form circles with your dough in the frying pan.
- Your Bambalounis should be bronzed!
- Dip them in sugar or sprinkle them with it on top
You’re done! You’re now ready to eat your magical sweet rings!
