A-listers glitter in Lebanese gowns on Cannes red carpet
Indian actress Sonam Kapoor poses on the red carpet as she arrives for the screening of the animated film “Inside Out” (Vice Versa) out of competition at the 68th Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, southern France, May 18, 2015. REUTERS/Eric GaillardLebanese designers’ dresses have turned heads at red carpet events for the past decade, and the 68th Cannes Film Festival was no different.
Elie Saab and Zuhair Murad and Georges Hobeika gowns were donned by Hollywood’s elite with A-list stars such as actress Eva Longoria, Michele Laroque, Virginie LeDoyen, Charlotte Le Bon and Cansu Dere wearing Hobeika dresses.
Eva Longoria, the host of the 2015 Global Gift Gala in Cannes, wore a fitted silver gown with a plunging neck line and bow-tie waist belt from Hobeika’s collection.
Other stars spotted in Hobeika’s designs included Iranian-Dutch blogger Negin Mirsalehi, Turkish actress Cansu Dere and award-winning Malian singer Rokia Traore.
Lebanese filmmaker Nadine Labaki is expected to make an appearance on Day ten, supposedly in a Hobeika gown.
Murad’s clientele at the festival included French actresses Melanie Laurent and Frederique Bel, and Chinese actress Li Bingbing, who wore pieces from his spring 2015 collection, spring 2015 haute couture collection and pre-fall 2015 collection.
An elegant, sparking coral gown from Elie Saab’s ready-to-wear collection saw Andie MacDowell crowned as wearing the “look of the day” by the Associated Press, which described the outfit as “show stopping.”
Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor also donned in a creation of Saab, but this one was a feathered green gown from his haute couture collection.
