American late-night comedy hosts took US President Donald Trump to task for pulling the US out of the Paris climate agreement on Thursday, making fun of the commander in chief for the controversial move.
“Even Israel and Palestine are on the same side” when it comes to climate change, Daily Show host Trevor Noah said in a segment.
Noah jokingly conceded that “telling nature to go fuck itself while standing in a garden is a pretty gangsta move. The only way that could’ve been more messed up is if he did it with a polar bear standing in the background, although I’m sure Eric [Trump] would’ve shown up and shot the polar bear.”
“What makes it worse,” Noah continued, “is that every country in the world agreed to this. Even countries you wouldn’t expect. Russia agreed to this. North Korea agreed to this. Even Israel and Palestine are on the same side when it comes to global climate change.”
“Imagine that, they were like: ‘What are your views on climate change’,” Noah asked, mimicking an indeterminate Middle Eastern accent.
“Oh wow, same as ours, wow… this is like when we agreed on pork, yeah, yeah!” Noah continued, in reference to the prohibition on the consumption of pork according to Judaism and Islam.
Jimmy Kimmel, host of Jimmy Kimmel live, joked that even energy companies like Exxon and Shell were unhappy about the US pulling out of the Paris accord, “because apparently when big companies round out the numbers, it turns out that if climate change destroys human life on Earth, it could be bad for business.”
Kimmel deadpanned that the only countries who are not part of the deal except the US are “Nicaragua and Syria, and they’re doing great.”
