Michigan ex-marine tells Arab American teenagers: "I've killed your kind" #HummusHaters
With all the anti-Arab bashing we see in the news every week, Arab America is determined to expose those who discriminate against our community. We will recognize those who vilify the positive influence and contributions Arabs have made to the fabric of American society. And we will use hummus as our weapon. By naming those who vilify the Arab American community as #HummusHaters, we can express our culture positively while showing intolerance to bigotry.

This week’s hummus hater is the “Michigan ex-marine” who yelled at three Arab American teenagers in a gas station. The “Michigan ex-marine” told the teens that he’s killed their kind before, causing the the young Arab Americans to feel frightened. The “Michigan ex-marine” was buying two cases of beer and allegedly smelled of alcohol, causing some to believe that he was probably in a drunken stupor. However, undue hatred toward Arab Americans is unjustifiable, sober or not. This “Michigan ex-marine” could probably use some hummus to calm his nerves, make better choices in public, and treat all people with respect. Watch the news clip of his rant here.
