New Book “Melodies Under the Palms” looks at Iraq's pure values and culture in contrast to present negative perceptions

West Bloomfield, Michigan—Author Dr Salma Ajo is proud to announce the release of her new book, Melodies Under the Palms (Published by Author House). Two major issues motivated her to write this book. She felt overwhelmed with pundits, politicians and journalists who introduced themselves as specialists in Middle-East affairs.

With only minimal knowledge and limited travel to those countries, especially Iraq—Ajo believes those so called experts are not qualified to make decisions about Middle East affairs and culture.

Ajo has both the knowledge and experience of living in the Middle East, not only in Iraq, but she also lived and traveled in many of the Arab countries including; Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Palestine, Egypt, Kuwait, Tunisia and Morocco.

Her family visited many of the Arab countries when she was growing up, as a result Ajo identified and understood the different dialects spoken in most Middle Eastern countries. She grew up attending a French school and spoke French and English in addition to Arabic.

The reader will learn of her eye-opening experiences growing up in Iraq. During her childhood Ajo was exposed to speaking, reading, and writing multiple languages as well as to Iraq’s neighboring countries. It was in the 70’s when Ajo decided to write about the Iraq she knew as a child and before immigrating to the U.S.

Growing up with a loving family during those years provided a safe environment for innocent children. It was a true example of the model, “it takes a village to raise a child.” The main objective of her book is to introduce the Iraq of the past and introduce a different perspective about a country that has been so harshly and negatively portrayed in the media.

The reader is transformed to a time when Iraq was graced with culture and diversity. The true beauty of such a wonderful country is brought to light and its vast history leaves readers’ in awe.
