CAMPAIGN & MEMBERSHIP COORDINATOR JOB ANNOUNCEMENT (LEAD ORGANIZER)

Position:     Full Time Campaign and Membership Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY:
The Lead Organizer will be responsible for developing and coordinating the base-building and campaign work of the organization.

General Duties and Responsibilities
Member recruitment & retention (25%)

  • Develops and implements community organizing plans and goals; (including leadership development, base building, related organizational development, and campaign strategy development)
  • Implement AROC priorities for organizing, including the development and facilitation of meetings and trainings, and conducting regular one-on-ones and supervision with members and leaders
  • Trains AROC staff, members and interns in community organizing, political education and member retention skills and analysis

Campaign strategy, research & development (35%)

  • Coordinates and conducts research to develop and advance strategic campaigns, related projects, and the organization
  • Works with members and staff to develop and implement campaign plans
  • Works with members and staff to plan and implement campaign tactics
  • Works with Executive Director to evaluate and assess the development of the campaigns and makes strategic and tactical calls about how to most effectively move the organization toward its goals

Alliances (15%)

  • Helps build local, regional and national alliances that support, amplify, and strengthen the organizing of AROC
  • Participates in coalition activities and campaigns

Media/communications (10%)

  • Conducts and coordinates communications work for the project’s campaign work, in coordination with organizational communication plans
  • Coordinates messaging and media training for staff, grassroots leaders and members
  • Develops outreach materials for the organizations projects and campaigns.

Fundraising (5%)

  • Supports the Executive Director in identifying potential funding opportunities, grant writing and reporting
  • Participates in the cultivation and appreciation of funders and donors
  • Participates in and supports grassroots fundraising efforts

Administration and organizational support (10%)

  • Regularly enters and updates member contact information, including dues payments and activity participation in AROC’s database
  • Follow the workplans established under the supervision of the Executive Director
  • Participates in staff meetings, organizing team meetings, and staff planning retreats and feedback and assessment retreats.
  • Active and regular participation and contributions to political education and leadership development spaces

Desired qualifications, skills and expertise:

  • Bilingual in Arabic / English
  • Strong commitment to social, racial and economic justice
  • Two to five years experience in community organizing with communities of color (preferably low-income, immigrant, LGBTQ, or other oppressed communities)
  • Supervision & team management experience
  • Campaign development (power analysis, strategy development, tactical planning & evaluation) experience
  • Knowledge of Arab community history and in the Bay Area, conditions and community organizing
  • Strong personal organization skills
  • Familiarity with the county of San Francisco and the surrounding region, including – local history, geography of the city / neighborhoods, knowledge of various organizations, political issues and players etc. strongly preferred
  • Basic computer skills – familiarity with Word, Excel and web browsers required and Google Calendar & Google Drive, graphic design programs preferred

OPERATIONS & COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

JOB SUMMARY:
The Operations & Communications Coordinator is based in San Francisco, is a full-time staff member, an essential member of the staff who is primarily responsible for maintaining organizational systems, IT infrastructure and communications that support the work of AROC.

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support communicating with clients and members, and maintaining filing system and database.
  • Conduct membership and client intakes and manage documents.
  • Some administrative support to fund development and financial management.
  • Ensure adequate and effective functioning of all technologies, (software/hardware) office systems and processes.
  • Manage and implement the social media strategies and tactics; updating and posting content provided for blogs, facebook, You Tube, email and newsletter communications through Mail Chimp, etc.
  • Create and publish content or copy edit communications after content is provided and before distribution.
  • Assist Executive Director with managing weekly, monthly and yearly schedules.
  • Create flyers, bulletins, and other publicity for events and programs.
  • Assist staff with developing and updating outreach material and AROC literature.
  • Participate in staff meetings and annual retreats.
  •  Commitment to racial and economic justice, and immigrant rights; AROC’s vision, mission, strategies and role in the community.

Desired qualifications, skills and expertise:

  • Fluent in Arabic & English.
  • Strong people skills in person, by phone and email.
  • Ability to produce quality written work, including letters and outreach material.
  • Computer skills: databases and data entry, MS Office (required); graphic design/web design (preferred)
  • Skilled in social media including FaceBook, Mail Chimp, WordPress, etc.
  • 2-3 years office administration/operations experience.
  • Self-motivated, communicates and coordinates well with co-workers, able to work in small teams.
  • Strong ability to plan, organize and execute duties in an efficient manner, but also able to remain flexible and open to change.
  • Commitment to racial and economic justice, and immigrant rights; AROC’s vision, mission, strategies and role in the community.
  • Experience with community organizing, political advocacy or activism.
