At the regular monthly meeting of the Dearborn Democratic Club on March 30th, 2016, a large and diverse membership adopted the attached Resolution, 2016-001. The timely Resolution “On President Barack Obama’s Nomination to the Supreme Court Vacancy”, was adopted in light of the membership’s grave concern over Senate Republicans’ abdication of duties clearly outlined in the Constitution of the United States. The members expressed grave concern over a dangerous precedent and break from constitutional tradition for for “reasons based solely in electoral politics.”

“Regardless of our personal opinion of the President’s nomination of Judge Merrick Garland to fill the vacancy on the US Supreme Court, the possibility of a dangerous precedent is very real. This constitutional process has been derailed and this train must not be allowed to leave the station.” stated Attorney Tarek M. Baydoun, a member of the Club’s Executive Board.

“Republican Senators need to realize that they too must abide by the constitution that governs us all. It’s time to take a stand against this nonsense.  The president did his part; it is time for Republican Senators to their part too” stated Sami Khaldi, President of the Dearborn Democratic Club.
